SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Lyle Eugene Wacaser of Springfield,
4who passed away on August 14, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle Wacaser was born to Paul and Helen
6(Keyes) Wacaser in Lovington on November 9, 1932; he graduated
7as class president and valedictorian from Lovington High
8School; he earned a bachelor's degree in science from the
9University of Illinois; he was member of a number of
10organizations and societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta
11Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha; and
 
12    WHEREAS, in 1957, Dr. Lyle Wacaser received his medical
13degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago; after an
14internship at Presbyterian Hospital (now Rush Medical Center)
15in Chicago, he completed his neurosurgical residency at the
16University of Illinois; he spent the following year as a fellow
17at the International College of Surgeons in Gothenburg, Sweden
18under the famous neurovascular surgeon, Dr. Norlene; after his
19residency, he joined Dr. Floyd Barringer's neurosurgical
20practice in Springfield; he practiced neurosurgery for several
21years until he entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 1967
22during the Vietnam War; he was stationed at the 95th Evacuation
23Hospital near DeNang; he entered the army as a Major and was

1honorably discharged as a Lt. Colonel; and
 
2    WHEREAS, in 1970, Dr. Lyle Wacaser returned to Springfield
3and went into private practice, first with his brother, Dr.
4Larry Wacaser, and later with his wife, Dr. Constance Kayser;
5he retired in 2000 as a highly respected and much loved
6neurosurgeon; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle Wacaser served as Chairman of the
8Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Springfield
9Memorial Medical Center and on the faculty of the SIU Medical
10School; he was member of the American Medical Association, the
11Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the American
12Association of Neurological Surgeons; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle Wacaser was known for his wicked sense of
14humor, incredible intelligence, and unending sense of fun; he
15kept a magnificent vegetable garden and was an avid fisherman
16and world traveler; he visited many countries on six
17continents, including many trips to Vietnam to visit his old
18friend and former neurosurgical mentee, Dr. Dung Le; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle Wacaser was preceded in death by his
20parents; his brothers, Lawrence and Deane Wacaser; and his son,
21Kurt Wacaser; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Lyle Wacaser is survived by his wife, Dr.
2Constance Kayser; his children, Kathy (Mick) Hawken, Melissa
3James, and Lyle (AJ) Wacaser; his stepdaughter, Cid Hart; his
4sister, Ellen Wacaser Keyes; his eight grandchildren, his six
5great-grandchildren; and his nine nieces and nephews;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Dr. Lyle Eugene Wacaser and extend our sincere condolences to
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Dr. Lyle Wacaser as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
