SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William E. "Bill" Thomas Sr., who passed away on June 2, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Bill Thomas was born in Lerna to Roy and Margaret Thomas on April 30, 1932; he married Norma Tate on December 9, 1951; he served in the U.S. Army while living in Texas; and

WHEREAS, Bill Thomas worked at Hays Freightline before moving to Springfield in 1955; his lifelong career started with Westinghouse Elevator, where he retired after 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Bill Thomas enjoyed camping with his wife, fishing, and playing cards with his friends; and

WHEREAS, Bill Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenny; and his sister, Delores; and

WHEREAS, Bill Thomas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Norma; his children, Connie Thomas, Ed Thomas, Jim (Julie) Thomas, and Steve (Mary Lou) Thomas; his seven grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William E. "Bill" Thomas Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Thomas as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
