HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Chief David R. Weiss on being named Firefighter of the Year for the Westmont Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weiss joined the Westmont Fire Department in 1990 as the department's Training Officer; he developed a training program and mentored many young firefighters; and

WHEREAS, In 2007, Chief Weiss was appointed full-time Deputy Chief for the department, and his efforts resulted in over one million dollars in grant monies and two Governor's Hometown Awards for volunteer programs; in 2012, his progressive career with Westmont culminated in being appointed full-time Fire Chief; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure at Westmont, Chief Weiss has initiated and overseen numerous projects that have won nationwide recognition, including the Citizens Fire Academy and Alumni Association, Kids Summer Safety Camps, Senior Citizen Clerical Volunteers, and Citizens and Fire Corp programs; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weiss has a long list of credentials, including an associate's degree in fire science and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Service; he graduated from the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program and received a certification from the International Institution of Fire Engineers; and

WHEREAS, Outside of the department, Chief Weiss serves as a peer reviewer for the State of Illinois Fire Officer applications, is a task force member of Homeland Security's Fire Corps program, and is a certified instructor for the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association; he has served as a faculty member of Triton College and the College of DuPage; and

WHEREAS, Chief Weiss has dedicated his life to the life-saving work of firefighting by mentoring and training new firefighters, developing training programs, and involving himself in his work on the local and national levels; in addition, he is a dedicated family man and community advocate; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Chief David R. Weiss on being named Firefighter of the Year for the Westmont Fire Department, and we greatly admire his years of life-saving services; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Weiss as an expression of our esteem and respect.
