SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald James Bernardi, who passed away on
4April 5, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was born in Spring Valley to
6Donald and Mary (Ferraro) Bernardi on February 13, 1923; he
7served in the United States Navy for 13 years; he served as a
8gunnery officer, Loran officer, deck division officer, and
9landing craft officer aboard the USS Dorthea L. Dix during
10World War II; he was awarded the Victory Ribbon of World War
11II, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation
12Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon; he married Celia
13Gualandri at St. Benedict Church in Ladd on May 13, 1950; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi admired his father and worked
15closely with him in the gas station his father owned in Ladd;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi enjoyed traveling, especially to
18Hawaii, photography, fishing, bird watching, and cooking; he
19was known to be a handyman and especially enjoyed working on
20his cars; he adored his family and loved spending time with
21them and will be remembered as a funny, kind, patient, and
22grateful man; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brother, Bernard Bernardi; and his sister, Frances
3Victor; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi is survived by his wife, Celia;
5his children, Donald (Joan) Bernardi, David (Suzy) Bernardi,
6Barbara (Richard) Alton, and Linda (Greg) Mable; his siblings,
7Joseph Bernardi and Marie Giordano; his grandchildren, Leah,
8Caroline, Daniel, Anthony, Francis, Joseph, and Angela; and
9many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Donald James Bernardi, and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Donald Bernardi as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
