SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald James Bernardi, who passed away on April 5, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was born in Spring Valley to Donald and Mary (Ferraro) Bernardi on February 13, 1923; he served in the United States Navy for 13 years; he served as a gunnery officer, Loran officer, deck division officer, and landing craft officer aboard the USS Dorthea L. Dix during World War II; he was awarded the Victory Ribbon of World War II, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon; he married Celia Gualandri at St. Benedict Church in Ladd on May 13, 1950; and

WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi admired his father and worked closely with him in the gas station his father owned in Ladd; and

WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii, photography, fishing, bird watching, and cooking; he was known to be a handyman and especially enjoyed working on his cars; he adored his family and loved spending time with them and will be remembered as a funny, kind, patient, and grateful man; and

WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bernard Bernardi; and his sister, Frances Victor; and

WHEREAS, Donald Bernardi is survived by his wife, Celia; his children, Donald (Joan) Bernardi, David (Suzy) Bernardi, Barbara (Richard) Alton, and Linda (Greg) Mable; his siblings, Joseph Bernardi and Marie Giordano; his grandchildren, Leah, Caroline, Daniel, Anthony, Francis, Joseph, and Angela; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald James Bernardi, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Bernardi as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
