HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
4"Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen of Peoria, who passed away on March 5,
52018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was born to Frank and Florence
7Lehnhausen on September 11, 1919; he attended the Spalding
8Institute, where he was senior manager of the athletic
9department; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was drafted into the United
11States Army in May of 1941; he volunteered for the Aviation
12Cadet Program and joined the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air
13Force; for the next 27 months, he served as a combat bomber
14pilot and squadron commander in Europe and North Africa; he was
15awarded numerous medals and recognitions, including the
16Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart,
17the Soldier's Medal, a European Theatre of Operations medal
18with nine campaign stars, and the French Croix de Guerre; he
19achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, was discharged in 1946, and
20served in the Air Force Reserve until 1969; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen returned to Peoria and helped
22his father run the family drapery shop; he was elected to the

1Peoria City Council in 1953 and served as mayor from 1965 to
21969; he went on to head the Illinois Housing Authority and the
3Illinois Department of Local Government Affairs; in 1973, he
4became an officer at Peoria's First Federal Savings Bank, where
5he worked until he retired in 1985; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen turned his attention to the
7stock market over the last several decades of his life,
8learning as much as he could, refining his investment
9strategies, and passing along his knowledge; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was an active member of St.
11Cecilia Parish, and later, St. Jude Parish; in 1995, Peoria
12Notre Dame High School awarded him with its Distinguished
13Alumnus of the Year award; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was preceded in death by his
15parents; his brother, Clark Lehnhausen; his infant son, Robert
16Lehnhausen; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Shannon) Lehnhausen;
17and his grandson, Jacob Johnson; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen is survived by his wife of 72
19years, Elizabeth (Waugh); his children, Mary Jo Lehnhausen
20(Arun Pinto), Phillip (Teresa) Lehnhausen, Ann (Jack)
21Burtelow, Tom Lehnhausen, Kay (Scot) Ironside, Steven (Karen)
22Lehnhausen, and Dave Lehnhausen; his grandchildren, Navin

2Timothy Lehnhausen (Stephanie Haas), Tobin Lehnhausen, Matthew

4Burtelow, Elizabeth (Mike) Bauer, Jim (Mallory) Ironside,
5Meredith (Mike) Steininger, Michael (Patricia) Lehnhausen, and
6Stephanie Lehnhausen (Scott Shaw); 16 great-grandchildren; his
7brother-in-law, Fr. John Waugh; his sisters-in-law, Kathleen
8(Phil) Harney and Freddie Waugh; and numerous loving nieces and
9nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Robert "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen, and
13extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
14who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Robert Lehnhausen as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
