HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Catherine
4Rogers, affectionately known as "Grandma Katie," of Chicago,
5who passed away on June 25, 2018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was born in Chicago to Robert and
7Jessie Mae Thomas on June 21, 1925; she graduated from
8Englewood High School in 1943; after high school, she continued
9her education at Provident Hospital in Chicago, where she
10studied nursing and radiology; she married Riley H. Rogers
11M.D.; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers postponed her education and
13career to nurture her children; following the untimely death of
14her husband, she resumed her career in the medical field and
15served as Manager of Medical Records at Schwab Rehabilitation
16Institute; she retired from the Rehabilitation Institute of
17Chicago (RIC) after 38 years in the medical community; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers committed to her faith at an
19early age and was a member of Ward Memorial Baptist Church
20under the leadership of Reverend J.W. Ward; at Ward Memorial
21Baptist, she served as Minister of Music and played the piano
22and organ; in 1971, she joined the Fellowship Missionary

1Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Clay Evans;
2throughout her active tenure at Fellowship, she served in the
3choir; she loved gospel music, family gatherings, and cooking;
4throughout her life, her primary focus was always the wellbeing
5of her family; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was preceded in death by her
7parents; her husband, Riley; and her children, Lynda and Eddie;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers is survived by her children,
10Dwight (Linda), Larry (Pam), Gwennie, Riley, Brenda, and
11Anthony (Vanessa); her 18 grandchildren; her 29
12great-grandchildren; her 9 great-great-grandchildren; her two
13devoted caregivers, Sonia and Faustina; and her many other
14relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of Catherine Rogers and extend our sincere
18condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19her; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Catherine Rogers as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
