HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Catherine Rogers, affectionately known as "Grandma Katie," of Chicago, who passed away on June 25, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was born in Chicago to Robert and Jessie Mae Thomas on June 21, 1925; she graduated from Englewood High School in 1943; after high school, she continued her education at Provident Hospital in Chicago, where she studied nursing and radiology; she married Riley H. Rogers M.D.; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers postponed her education and career to nurture her children; following the untimely death of her husband, she resumed her career in the medical field and served as Manager of Medical Records at Schwab Rehabilitation Institute; she retired from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) after 38 years in the medical community; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers committed to her faith at an early age and was a member of Ward Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J.W. Ward; at Ward Memorial Baptist, she served as Minister of Music and played the piano and organ; in 1971, she joined the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Clay Evans; throughout her active tenure at Fellowship, she served in the choir; she loved gospel music, family gatherings, and cooking; throughout her life, her primary focus was always the wellbeing of her family; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Riley; and her children, Lynda and Eddie; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Rogers is survived by her children, Dwight (Linda), Larry (Pam), Gwennie, Riley, Brenda, and Anthony (Vanessa); her 18 grandchildren; her 29 great-grandchildren; her 9 great-great-grandchildren; her two devoted caregivers, Sonia and Faustina; and her many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Catherine Rogers and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Catherine Rogers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
