SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Delores Shavers; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was born on May 5, 1948 in
5Chicago; her parents were Ralph and Luevenia Shavers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers confessed her life to Christ and
7was baptized at an early age; she was a devoted member of the
8United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor
9Wilson Daniels for over 20 years; she served as an usher and
10most recently served on the Hospitality Board at the church;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers completed her elementary
13education at Julius Hayes Hess and graduated from John Marshall
14High School; she subsequently attended Richard Wright College;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers worked and retired from the
17Chicago Board of Education after 35 years of dedicated service
18working with special needs children; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was a committed member of her
20community and took pride in assisting with organizing the

1annual block club event; she also enjoyed traveling,
2socializing with friends, bid whist, and spending time with her
3family, particularly her grandchildren; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was a wonderful person who could
5always be counted on to give unconditional love and support to
6her family, friends, and everyone she met; she was
7affectionately loved and known as Auntie Dee Dee by Illinois
8State Senator Kimberly Lightford and her siblings, Carmelita,
9Janon, and Melvin, Jr.; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers also served as a mentor to Senator
11Lightford, having demonstrated to her the meaning of true
12sisterhood and friendship over the course of her life; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers was preceded in death by her
14parents and 8 siblings, Beatrice, Katie May, Mozell, Katie Lee,
15Velma, Lamont, Johnny, and Ralph, Jr.; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Delores Shavers is survived by her children,
17Derrick (Nicole) and Schunita (Andre); 5 grandchildren,
18Derrick, Jr, Demond, Deshaun, Skylar, and Shianne; a sister,
19Elnora (James) Haralson; 2 brothers, Vernon (Alexandria) and
20Mark (Yvonne); 2 brothers-in-law, Arthur Lindsey and Robert
21Parker; her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and 3
22special life-long friends, Linda Augustus (Ramey), Barbara

1Lightford (Babs), and Rosemary Malone (Gypsy); and
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Senate recognize that mere
3words prove inadequate to ease the pain experienced by the
4family and friends of Delores Shavers over her loss; however,
5we have come together as a body to share our profound sense of
6grief and our most sincere condolences over the loss of this
7special woman and her legacy of great love and wisdom;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Delores Shavers; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Delores Shavers as an expression of
15our sympathy.
