SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lorene Agnes Sabonjian, who passed away on May 24, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was born in Higbee, Missouri on December 11, 1916 to James Robert and Mandana Terrill; she graduated from Huntsville High School in 1935 and, after passing the Missouri Teaching exams, taught students in a nearby rural school for several months; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian moved to Kansas City in the fall of 1935 and married in 1936; when that marriage did not work out, she joined the United States Navy; she attended Boot Camp at Hunter College in New York state; from there she went to Milledgeville, Georgia and then on to her first post in Crane, Indiana; she held the position of bookkeeper in the base's supply office; her next and last duty station was at Naval Station Great Lakes, where she worked in the Separation and Terminal Leave Center; she attained the rank of ACSK while working to discharge the WAVES and sailors at Great Lakes; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian married Robert V. Sabonjian on June 7, 1947; they opened Dutch Mill Cleaners in 1948; in 1957, her husband ran for Mayor of Waukegan and she spent 24 years as Waukegan's First Lady; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was a member of the First Christian Church in Waukegan, where she served as an Elder and Church Treasurer; she also served as the regional President of The Church Women United; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian and her husband traveled extensively to places such as Hawaii, England, Monaco, The Canary Islands, Australia, Israel, Greece, and Egypt; she kept active by playing bridge, bowling, traveling to visit relatives, and walking everyday with her new best friend, her Bichon Frise named Beau; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Dana Jo; her brothers, John and Irving; and her sisters, Violet, Victory, and Lillian; and

WHEREAS, Lorene Sabonjian is survived by her son, Robert Glenn (Jo An); her grandson, Adam Wesley (Lynn) Domerchie and their sons, Jayson and Ryan; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews spread throughout the world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lorene Agnes Sabonjian, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lorene Sabonjian as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
