SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leon R. Filas of Crystal Lake, who passed away on March 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas was born on February 21, 1922 in Lublin, Wisconsin; his parents were Roman and Minnie Filas; he married Mary Daniel on July 13, 1946 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas was a carpenter by trade; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas was a lifelong member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and a member of the Chicago Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; and numerous siblings; and

WHEREAS, Leon Filas is survived by 3 sons, Wayne (Karen), Glen, and Leon (Nancy); 3 grandchildren, Daniel Filas, Kevin Filas, and Maryann (Aaron) Cashmore; 3 step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Blake, and Bryan Lichthardt; a great-grandson, Paxton Cashmore; 4 siblings, Albert, Loretta, Leonard, and Louie (Cathy); and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Leon R. Filas; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leon Filas as an expression of our sympathy.
