SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lenard Jonn "Lenny" Szarek of Johnsburg, who passed away on February 8, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Lenard Szarek was born in Waukegan on January 22, 1948 to Walter and Stephanie (nee Wasowicz) Szarek; he was educated at Montini Catholic School in McHenry and graduated from Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock in 1966; he married Christine Wilson in Woodstock on April 3, 1971; and

WHEREAS, After high school, Lenard Szarek worked as a carpenter and began his lifetime passion in the field of construction; he worked for Ernie Kissinger Co. and then R.D. Thiel & Co. for many years; in 1983, he began Lenny Szarek, Inc., building homes and commercial buildings with skilled union carpenters; he was very proud to use skilled union craftsman in his profession; and

WHEREAS, Lenard Szarek enjoyed target shooting, bowling, golfing, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Chicago Cubs; he loved shopping "the Amazon way", Chicago nightlife, and taking sunrise walks along Lake Shore Drive; he loved the companionship of his schnauzers, Muffin, Maggie, and Lilly; and

WHEREAS, Lenard Szarek was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Schmidt; and

WHEREAS, Lenard Szarek is survived by his wife of 43 years, Christine; his 4 children, Jay (Kimberly) Szarek, Michael (Dina) Szarek, Laura (Ron) Burns, and Lisa (Ryan) Picou; and his 7 grandchildren, Kaylie, Karissa, Sean, Mitchell, Jennifer, Christina, and Elliot; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lenard John "Lenny" Szarek, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lenard Szarek as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
