SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jill Poehlman, who passed away on January 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Jill Poehlman was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 24, 1943; and

WHEREAS, Jill Poehlman began her career at the Actor's Studio in New York City and worked off-Broadway and in regional theaters throughout the country; in 1986, she created the not-for-profit Communication Arts, Speech, and Theatre program at Julian Junior High School in Oak Park, and later at Center Stage - Dominican University's performing arts program; and

WHEREAS, During Jill Poehlman's time working at Dominican University, she fell in love with the Sinsinawa Dominican mission and became a member of the Dominican Associates, an organization of laypersons affiliated with the Dominican Sisters of Peace; she went from working at the university to working for the congregation itself; and

WHEREAS, Jill Poehlman was a vital force who inspired thousands of young people to be their best selves; and

WHEREAS, Jill Poehlman is survived by her husband, Michael; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jill Poehlman, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jill Poehlman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
