SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2

    Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that no person shall be elected to the same Executive Branch office more than twice, and no person who has held the office of an Executive Branch officer as Acting Governor or as an appointee for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected to that office shall be elected to that Executive Branch office more than once. Effective upon being declared adopted and applies to each person elected or appointed to an Executive Branch office or who serves as Acting Governor on and after the 2018 general election.

3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend Article V of the
9Illinois Constitution by changing Section 2 as follows:

THE EXECUTIVE

12    (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2)
13SECTION 2. TERMS
14    (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall
15hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of
16January after their election and, except in the case of the
17Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.
18They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every
19four years thereafter.
20    (b) No person shall be elected to the same Executive Branch
21office more than twice, and no person who has held the office
22of an Executive Branch officer as Acting Governor or as an
23appointee for more than two years of a term to which some other

SCHEDULE
5    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
6declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
7Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to each person elected
8or appointed to an Executive Branch office or who serves as
9Acting Governor on and after the 2018 general election.
