SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael W. Wurtz of Woodstock, who passed away on February 7, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz was born in Des Plaines on April 22, 1966 to William N. and Ilyce (nee Tilden) Wurtz; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz started with the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District in January of 2002 and became a full-time firefighter on July 17, 2006 under Badge #22; he was attached to Station #2; in addition to serving as a firefighter, he was a police officer with the McCullom Lake Police Department; he also served as a MABAS Division 5 Fire Investigator, was part of the Lake/McHenry County Wildland Firefighting Team, and was a member of the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois State Honor Guard; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz married Melissa M. Suriano on September 8, 2012 at Fire Station #3 in Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz was a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 4813, as well as the Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 17; he enjoyed being with his family and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, Michael Wurtz is survived by his wife, Melissa; his daughters, Katelyn Wurtz, Meghan Wurtz, and Reilly Wurtz; his step-children, Anna Kempka and Johnny Kempka; his brother, Brian Wurtz; his sisters, Debbie Murphy, Brenda Smart, and Laura Wurtz; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael W. Wurtz, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Wurtz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
