SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Francis William Carlborg of Geneva, who
4passed away on February 1, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg was born in Evanston on November
623, 1928 to Sonja Myrtle and Francis Ulrich Carlborg; he
7graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1946, and
8earned his Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Ripon College
9in 1950, his master's degree in mathematics from the University
10of Illinois in 1954, and his Ph.D. in statistics from the
11University of Chicago in 1964; he was a veteran of the Korean
12War and was posted at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama;
13he married Deane Anne Houlahan in 1955; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg began his career teaching
15mathematics at Rockford College; he settled in St. Charles in
161964, authored a textbook, and began a consulting practice as a
17statistician specializing in risk assessment for food
18additives and pesticides; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg was a life-long athlete and
20enjoyed tennis, cycling, reading, theater, and bluegrass
21music; and

1    WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg was preceded in death by his
2parents, and by his sisters, Catherine Gilmartin and Elizabeth
3"Betty" Elliott; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg is survived by his wife of 58
5years, Deane; his children, Sonja Deane Carlborg, Anne Frances
6McCormack, and William Eric Carlborg; his sister, Sonja
7Campbell; and his 7 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Francis William Carlborg, and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Francis Carlborg as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
