SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Merritt Roger Busby, who passed away on
4August 30, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Busby was born on October 21, 1940 in
6Danville; his parents were Edwin and Nora (Glick) Busby; he
7married Karon Platson Cornwell on October 31, 1992 at the
8Brocton Christian Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Roger Busby attended Metcalf Grade School and Hume
10Junior High School; he subsequently graduated from Young
11America High School in 1959; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Roger Busby served in the United States Army from
131964 to 1967, having attained the rank of Sergeant; he served
14in Korea for 2 years during the Vietnam War era and served as
15an assistant drill instructor at Ft. Knox, Kentucky; after
16completing his military service, he attended Eastern Illinois
17University, where he graduated in 1971; he also completed the
18Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Roger Busby devoted his life to public service; he
20served as a deputy sheriff in Edgar County for 12 years; he
21later worked for the Illinois Department of Children and Family

1Services as an abuse investigator and licensing representative
2for home day cares until his retirement in 2006; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roger Busby was a member and elder at the Brocton
4Christian Church; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Busby was preceded in death by his parents
6and his sister, Martha Busby Wagner; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Roger Busby is survived by his wife; his
8step-children, Julie Cornwell and J.R. (Beth) Cornwell; his
9nieces, Martha Anne (Robert) Bollinger, Katelyn Bollinger, and
10Emily Bollinger; his nephew, David Wagner; his grandchildren,
11Mitchell, Carissa, and Megan Cornwell; his mother-in-law,
12Virginia Reedy; his brother-in-law, Roger Reedy; his
13sisters-in-law, Janice Sharpton (Richard), Joann Lokken
14(Robert), and Debra Platson; and his many other extended family
15members and friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
18family and friends, mourn the passing of Merritt Roger Busby;
19and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Roger Busby as an expression of our
