SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Morris A. Yellen, who passed away on
4September 27, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey
6on September 16, 1921 to Rebecca and William Yellen; he was a
7graduate of Waukegan High School and a veteran of World War II,
8having flown 50 missions over Europe as a B-17 bombardier; he
9married Dorothy Hammel on July 7, 1945; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen, together with his father, owned
11Yellen's Produce Company in Waukegan for more than 5 decades
12and he was affectionately known to his customers as "the
13chicken man"; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen cherished taking part in the Honor
15Flight program and visiting the World War II memorial in
16Washington, D.C.; he was also a member of the Army Reserve; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen served as President of the Temple Am
18Echod B'nai Brith and was active in the Temple's brotherhood
19and synagogue for 60 years; he was a avid Chicago Cubs fan and
20enjoyed playing poker and bridge and following the sporting
21events and careers of his grandchildren; and

1    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen was preceded in death by his parents
2and by his sister, Lillian; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Morris Yellen is survived by his wife of 68 years,
4Dorothy; his children, Marlo (Larry) Beeman, Jeffrey (John
5Yallech) Yellen, Larry (Susan) Yellen, Harlene (William)
6Murry, and Julie (Steve) Arshop; his grandchildren, David
7Beeman, Maggie Fisher-Yellen, Elise and Emma Murry, and Sammy
8Arshop; and his sisters, Sarah, Rose, and Dora; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Morris A. Yellen, and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Morris Yellen as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
