SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ervin August Thien, who passed away on July 5, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was born on May 23, 1926, in Germantown; he was the son of Joseph B. and Mary C. Thien; he married the former Lestine Mae French on May 1, 1950, at Camp Bliss, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served as a fireman for the City of Wood River from 1952 to 1975, having served as Fire Chief from 1962 to 1975; he subsequently continued his service with the City of Wood River as a general inspector before working as a custodian for the Wood River-Hartford School District; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was a lifetime member of the Wood River VFW, the American Legion, and the Madison County Fireman's Association; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Herman, Aloysius, Edward, Victor, Joseph, Vincent, and Raymond Thien; his great-granddaughter, Francesca Maria McCoy; and his in-laws, Lester and Audrey French; and

WHEREAS, Ervin Thien is survived by his wife, Lestine; his sons, Ervin J. (Julia) Thien, Leslie Wayne (Becky) Thien, Douglas (Rosella) Thien, and Eric L. (Debbie) Thien; his 11 grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ervin August Thien; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ervin Thien as an expression of our sympathy.
