SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ervin August Thien, who passed away on
4July 5, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was born on May 23, 1926, in
6Germantown; he was the son of Joseph B. and Mary C. Thien; he
7married the former Lestine Mae French on May 1, 1950, at Camp
8Bliss, Texas; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served his country as a member of the
10United States Army during World War II and the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien served as a fireman for the City of
12Wood River from 1952 to 1975, having served as Fire Chief from
131962 to 1975; he subsequently continued his service with the
14City of Wood River as a general inspector before working as a
15custodian for the Wood River-Hartford School District; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was a lifetime member of the Wood
17River VFW, the American Legion, and the Madison County
18Fireman's Association; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien was preceded in death by his parents;
20his brothers, Herman, Aloysius, Edward, Victor, Joseph,

1Vincent, and Raymond Thien; his great-granddaughter, Francesca
2Maria McCoy; and his in-laws, Lester and Audrey French; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ervin Thien is survived by his wife, Lestine; his
4sons, Ervin J. (Julia) Thien, Leslie Wayne (Becky) Thien,
5Douglas (Rosella) Thien, and Eric L. (Debbie) Thien; his 11
6grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces
7and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of Ervin August Thien; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Ervin Thien as an expression of our
14sympathy.
