SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sylvia Fites, who passed away on May 6, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites was born in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 5, 1926; she married Donald V. Fites on June 25, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites graduated from Paarl Business School in 1944 and was employed by the Imperial Chemical Company until 1962; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites lived in Peoria from 1968 to 1970, 1975 to 1979, and 1982 to 2004; she accompanied her husband during assignments in Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria; she and her husband participated in First United Methodist charitable and missionary initiatives and the faith-based work of the Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lionel Dempsey; and her sister, Olga Lilley; and

WHEREAS, Sylvia Fites is survived by her husband, Donald; her daughter, Linda Reed; and her grandchildren, Donald, Rachel, and Robbie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Sylvia Fites; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sylvia Fites as an expression of our sympathy.
