SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Shannon "Shawn" Jermaine Smith of
4Chicago, who passed away on February 16, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith was born on July 15, 1975, to Karen
6Smith and Napoleon Harris Jr.; he attended Francis De Paul
7grammar school and Harvard Elementary, where he graduated in
81989; he attended Calumet High School, eventually attaining his
9diploma in 2004; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith met his wife, Timika, in 1999 and
11they were married on October 22, 2004; they had 2 children,
12Ceyanne and Karen; they were later joined by his daughter,
13Jada; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith worked as a forklift driver at
15Duraco Productions; he worked as a sales associate at Murray's
16Auto Parts and then at Auto Zone; he worked his way up at Auto
17Zone to parts sales manager; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith was known as a skilled mechanic and
19well known as the person to go to for car repairs; he was
20giving and would open his home to anyone in need; he joined
21Community C.O.G.I.C. in 2006 under the leadership of his

1grandfather, Administrative Assistant Pastor Napoleon Harris
2Sr.; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith was preceded in death by his
4parents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shannon Smith is survived by his wife, Timika; his
6sons, David Grant, Jon'Vonte Moore, Stephen Dickerson-Bye,
7Juan Morris Jr., Johnathan Morris, and Kiante Morris; his
8daughters, Ceyanne Dickerson, Jada Hankins, Karen Smith, and
9Chyanne Parker; his sisters, Shannea Brooks, Tomeika Nicole
10Harris Anderson (Alexander), and Asia Thurston; his brothers,
11Illinois State Senator Napoleon Bill Harris III (Nicole) and
12Jonathan Lamar Harris Sr.; his stepmother, Brenda Harris; his
13mother-in-law, Angela Dickerson-Bye (Randall); his
14brother-in-law, Sean Dickerson; his sisters-in-law, Jamie
15McPhee and Kara Bye (John); his grandparents, Napoleon Harris
16Sr. (Dr. Sherelene) and Mary Louis Breckenridge; his nieces,
17Arrion Pamon, Alexandria Nicole Anderson, Camaya Alexander,
18Isis Dickerson, Zenya Everette, and Baby Girl Harris; his
19nephews, Napoleon Nico Harris IV, Noah Bill Harris, Jonathan
20Lamar Harris Jr., and West Bye; his aunts, Sharon Bond
21(Reginald), Arlene Little, Jeraldyne Harris-Phillips,
22Charletta Little, Willa Dean Little, Anita Dickerson, Flossie
23Walton, Carol Dickerson, and Hazel Bowman; his uncles, Jamal
24Akbar, Derrick Harris, Keith Harris, Issac Myrick, Steven

1Harris (Evelyn), Mario and Marco Little, Jarrett Harris (Joy),
2Kenneth Dickerson (Michelle), Elijah Bowman (Chymica),
3Emmanuel Bowman (LaShone), and Kelvin Bowman (Dominique); his
4great aunts, Willa Dean Jackson, Gloria Spaulding, and Idella
5Brown; his great-great-aunts, Mother Charlotte Eades and
6Mother Elaine Reed; his great uncles, Sylvester Collins and
7Willie Roseman Jr.; and a host of cousins, other extended
8family, and many friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Shannon Smith, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Shannon Smith as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
