SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard "Vic" Gonzales of Alton, who passed away on February 12, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gonzales was born on October 8, 1934, in San Felipe, Mexico, to Atanacio and Reyes (Carmona) Gonzales; he served in the U.S Army from 1957-1959 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton; he retired from Amoco Oil Company as a pipefitter; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gonzales volunteered for the Red Cross beginning in 1995 and was Volunteer of the Year; he was one of the first disaster volunteers to respond to the September 11 tragedy; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gonzales was dedicated to his community and his family; he was the grand marshal of the Alton Halloween parade in 1998; he enjoyed coaching many youth recreational sports teams and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gonzales was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Consuelo Gonzales; his brothers, John, Peter, and Joseph Gonzales; and his niece, Theresa Gonzales; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gonzales is survived by his siblings, Frank Gonzales, Juanita Cruz, Felix Gonzales, Herman Gonzales, and Tony Gonzales; his sister-in-law, Loretta Gonzales; his nieces and nephews, Margaret Clark, Michael Cruz, Daniel Cruz, Connie St. Peters, Julie Weiner, Ken Cruz, Leonard Gonzales, Raymond Gonzales, Christina Gebben, Tom Gonzales, Nancy Gonzales, Phil Gonzales, David Gonzales, Jennifer McCullough, and Reyes Mosley; and his numerous great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Gonzales, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Gonzales as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
