SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gail Lofgren of Berwyn; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren attended LaVergne and Morton East
5High School, Morton College, and Rosary College; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren's first library position was at age
716 as a page at the old 34th Street branch of the Berwyn Public
8Library; she worked in the Learning Resources Center at Morton
9College for approximately 9 years and then returned to the
10Berwyn Public Library as their reference librarian; in 1993,
11she was promoted to the Berwyn's Library's 6th Director,
12retiring in 2001; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren was always someone who was interested
14in preserving the history of Berwyn, and in October of 1997,
15she joined the Berwyn Historical Society as a new board member;
16a year later she became the Society's secretary and then, a
17year after that, the treasurer; she remained on the board until
18approximately 2011; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In addition to volunteering with the Berwyn
20Historical Society, Gail Lofgren also gave her time to Meals on
21Wheels, Outreach at Pavilion and Altenheim Nursing Homes, the

1Berwyn Lions Club, the Berwyn Women's Club, the All Berwyn
2Committee, the Pershing Parent Teachers Association, and
3served as a council member at Concordia Lutheran Church; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren was an avid reader, particularly
5enjoying mysteries, biographies, and historical fiction; she
6also enjoyed fishing, antiquing, and traveling to Nauvoo;
7Hannibal, Missouri; and with her family to their summer cottage
8in Minocqua, Wisconsin; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren, and her husband of over 40 years,
10Tom, had one daughter, Sarah; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Gail Lofgren, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Gail Lofgren as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
