SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gail Lofgren of Berwyn; and

WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren attended LaVergne and Morton East High School, Morton College, and Rosary College; and

WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren's first library position was at age 16 as a page at the old 34th Street branch of the Berwyn Public Library; she worked in the Learning Resources Center at Morton College for approximately 9 years and then returned to the Berwyn Public Library as their reference librarian; in 1993, she was promoted to the Berwyn's Library's 6th Director, retiring in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren was always someone who was interested in preserving the history of Berwyn, and in October of 1997, she joined the Berwyn Historical Society as a new board member; a year later she became the Society's secretary and then, a year after that, the treasurer; she remained on the board until approximately 2011; and

WHEREAS, In addition to volunteering with the Berwyn Historical Society, Gail Lofgren also gave her time to Meals on Wheels, Outreach at Pavilion and Altenheim Nursing Homes, the Berwyn Lions Club, the Berwyn Women's Club, the All Berwyn Committee, the Pershing Parent Teachers Association, and served as a council member at Concordia Lutheran Church; and

WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren was an avid reader, particularly enjoying mysteries, biographies, and historical fiction; she also enjoyed fishing, antiquing, and traveling to Nauvoo; Hannibal, Missouri; and with her family to their summer cottage in Minocqua, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Gail Lofgren, and her husband of over 40 years, Tom, had one daughter, Sarah; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gail Lofgren, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gail Lofgren as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
