SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

720 ILCS 5/24-1.3 new

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that it is unlawful for any person to possess a suppressor for any firearm that has had its serial number removed or altered. Provides that a violation is a Class 3 felony. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning criminal law.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by adding Section 24-1.3 as follows:

(720 ILCS 5/24-1.3 new)

Sec. 24-1.3. Possession of a suppressor without a serial number or with an altered serial number.

(a) It is unlawful for any person to possess a suppressor for any firearm that has had its serial number removed or altered.

(b) Sentence. A violation of this Section is a Class 3 felony.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
