SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Terrence N. "Monk" Tiernan of
4Waukegan, who passed away on July 19, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was born on May 9, 1938, in
6Waukegan; he graduated from Waukegan High School and joined the
7Marine Corps in 1956; he served for three years and wrestled on
8the USMC team; he attended the University of Illinois in
9Champaign and wrestled there also; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was a computer systems analyst
11for most of his career; he worked at Outboard Marine
12Corporation, Snap On Tools, and Brunswick Corporation; he also
13owned or partnered in local businesses, including Action
14Office, TnT's Tap, and Badger Egg; he retired from civil
15service at USMEPCOM as Director of Information Management in
162002; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was a member of the Lake County
18Marine Corps League and a founding member of The Society for
19the Preservation and Encouragement of Automobile Racing and
20Beer Drinking in America; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan loved spending time with his

1family and friends; he enjoyed golfing, attending auto races,
2fishing, restoring his 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, cooking, wintering
3in Ft. Myers, Florida, and the occasional cocktail; he had two
4holes-in-one while golfing, had a quick wit, and loved telling
5funny stories; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan was preceded in death by his
7parents, Matthew Tiernan and Magdalen Ditter; his first wife,
8Kathleen; his brother, James Tiernan; his sister, Patricia; and
9his stepfather, Richard Ditter; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Terrence Tiernan is survived by his wife of 24
11years, Margery (Brecheisen) Tiernan; his son, Michael (Myrta)
12Tiernan; and his grandchildren, Bryan and James Tiernan;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Terrence Tiernan, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
21sympathy.
