SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Patrick "Pat" Nelson, who passed away on March 10, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson was born on December 6, 1936; he was the son of the late Eugene Patrick and Lydia Nelson; he married Susanne Cusack on August 2, 1958, at St. Bernard Church in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson graduated from Bradley University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson retired from Shell Oil Company in Wood River after 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville; he was a professed Secular Franciscan and a member of Our Lady of the Angels Fraternity in Edwardsville and served as Minister of Our Lady of the Angels Fraternity for 6 years; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1143; he was also honored by the Vatican by being named a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Nelson; his sisters, Jacqueline Coyle and Eileen Brown; and his brother, Buddy Nelson; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Nelson is survived by his sons, Patrick J. Nelson, Jr. and wife Melissa, Daniel E. Nelson and wife Karie, and James T. Nelson and Kathryn J. Marks; his daughters, Maureen D. Schuette and husband Greg, Christine M. Nelson, and Laurie E. Bonk and husband Alan; his sister, Gayle Rogy; and his 13 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Patrick "Pat" Nelson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patrick Nelson as an expression of our sympathy.
