SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward W. "Eddie" Smolich, who passed
4away on September 29, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was born on April 14, 1920, in
6South Wilmington; he resided in the Joliet area for most of his
7life; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich proudly served his country during
9World War II as a member of the United States Army's
10Headquarters Battery, 101st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion
11in New Guinea; he received the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific
12Campaign Ribbon, the American Overseas Victory Ribbon, the
13Overseas Service Bar, and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon
14for his meritorious service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich and his brother, Rudy, were the
16owners and operators of Smolich Brothers Sausage Company since
171971; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was a Life Member of V.F.W.
19Cantigny Post #367 and the American Legion Post #1080; he was
20also a member of The Joliet Moose Lodge #300, the American
21Fraternal Union, Joliet Knights of Columbus #382, the St.

1Joseph Holy Name Society, the Senior Citizens Association, the
2Old Timer's Baseball Association, and the Will County Seniors;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was preceded in death by his loving
5wife, Evelyn Smolich; his son, John Edward Smolich; his
6great-granddaughter; his parents, Anton and Catherine (nee
7Spelich) Smolich; and his 4 sisters and 3 brothers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Edward Smolich is survived by his loving and
9devoted daughters, Mary Kay (Bill) Schmitt and JoAnne (Doug)
10Marshall; his grandchildren; Nancy (Scott) Lewandowski, Laura
11(Louie) Mau, Cathy (Brad) Blankenship, Kelly (Todd) Michael,
12Brad (Amy) Marshall, Angela (Guadalupe) Reyes, Beth (Kyle)
13Brown, and John (Amy) Smolich; his 17 great-grandchildren; his
14brothers, Louis Smolich and Rudy (Lois) Smolich; his sisters,
15Maggie Smolich and Francie Sovich; his special loving and
16devoted friend, Irene Vercellino; and his many nieces, nephews,
17and cousins; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Edward W. "Eddie"
21Smolich; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2our sympathy.
