SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bill Stewart of East Alton, who passed away on December 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born February 18, 1924 in McLeansboro, a son of Cloyd and Georgia (Green) Stewart; he married Hazel Nadine Williams on February 24, 1945 in Norris City; and

WHEREAS, He was a retired math teacher at Roxana High School and Lewis & Clark Community College; he also served on the Wood River Township Board for 9 terms totaling 28 years; he was a member of the East Alton School Board and was a basketball and track coach at Roxana High School; he loved fishing and basketball; he was also a member of the Vaughn Hill Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, He was a World War II Army veteran and earned a Bronze Star and a Silver Star for his service, which included the invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother; and his 3 sisters; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stewart is survived by his wife, Hazel; his daughter, Billie Whipple; his son, Stanley Kent Stewart; his granddaughter, Allison Renee Poindexter; and his nieces, nephews, and other extended family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bill Stewart; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Stewart as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
