SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Private First Class Adam Dobereiner on November 18, 2011, while serving his country in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan as a Combat Engineer; he was on a mission to free 2 villages from Taliban control when the vehicle he was driving was hit by an improvised explosive device; and

WHEREAS, He was born on November 21, 1989, in Rock Island, to Christopher and Lee Ann (Smith) Dobereiner; he was engaged to Jenna Schmitt and was to be married on January 3, 2012; he graduated from Moline High School in 2008, where he participated in wrestling, football, and building trades; he then enrolled as a student at Black Hawk College; and

WHEREAS, Following a longline of family military service, he enlisted in the United States Army in 2010 and graduated training as a Combat Engineer; he was deployed to Afghanistan on July 6, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Whether it was helping distribute food at church, shoveling a sidewalk for someone, giving his best effort for his team, or choosing to give up his weekends to care for his great-grandfather in the last months of his life, Adam was always known to step up; and

WHEREAS, Adam Dobereiner was preceded in death by his aunt, Beth Smith; his uncle, Stephen Dobereiner; his great uncles, Pete Hantz Jr. and Stanley Hantz; and his great-grandparents, Pete Hantz Sr., Troy and Lorraine Huff, Alvin and Margaret Dobereiner, and Ida and Herbert Smith; and

WHEREAS, United States Army Private First Class Adam Dobereiner is survived by his mother, Lee Ann Dobereiner; his father, Christopher Dobereiner; his siblings, Christopher Lorenze (Kelly) Dobereiner II, Helen Teresa (Marty) Dobereiner-Durbin, and Ann Marie Dobereiner; his nieces and nephews, Conner, Addison, Alayna, Marlee, and Ariana; his grandparents, Don and Helen Smith, Larry and Vicki Dobereiner, and William and Linda Blackwell; his great-grandparents, Leota Hantz and Ivan and Joan Overton; his aunts and uncles, Pete and Terri Smith, Tim and Elizabeth Krahl, Steven and Jennifer Thomas, Chris and MaryJo Thomas, and Mark Thomas; and his fiancee, Jenna Schmitt; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Private First Class Adam Dobereiner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army Private First Class Adam Dobereiner and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of United States Army Private First Class Adam Dobereiner as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
