SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Buford "Boots" Walters of Alton, who passed away on October 29, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born in February 1917 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of the late Curtis A. and Ethyl (Reese) Walters; he married Irene Henkhaus on September 4, 1940, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wood River; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from high school and attended Shurtleff College before going to work at Shell Oil Co. and St. Frances Convent in Alton; and

WHEREAS, He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many; he enjoyed sports, travel, and loved to sing; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sister, Edna Reuter; and his brothers, Darrel, Joe, and Leland Walters; and

WHEREAS, Buford Walters is survived by his children and their spouses, Sue Goessling and John, Sharon Jun and Richard, Mary Jo Keenan and Jim, David Walters, Nancy Green and Phil, Teresa Back and Brian, and Jeffery Walters and Mary; his grandchildren, Mark Goessling, Sheri Lynn Elfreich, Steve, Scott, and Rick Jun, Susie Silberhorn, Jim, Mike, and Joe Keenan, Sara Johnson, Amy and Adam Welch, Monica Johnson, Laura Laird, Lisa Back, and Kenny and Allison Walters; and his 32 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Buford Walters; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Buford Walters as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
