SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Sergeant Michael Bartley of Barnhill, who was killed in action in Iraq on January 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley was born on November 1, 1987, in Evansville, Indiana; his parents are Rebecca Isles and Robert Isles; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley graduated from Fairfield Community High School in 2007; he attended Orchardville Church in Xenia; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley served in the United States Army with the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division, a unit based in Fort Hood, Texas, that is currently serving in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley was on his second deployment in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Bill Lewis and Robert Isles; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley is survived by his parents, Rebecca and Robert, and his grandparents, Delta Lewis, Glenda Isles, and Henry Bartley; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley will be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his work ethic and optimistic spirit; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley's patriotism and courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United States Army Sergeant Michael Bartley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sgt. Michael Bartley as an expression of our sympathy.
