SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jordan Stephen Bastean of Pekin, who passed away on October 23, 2011; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean was born on March 10, 1992, in Peoria; his parents are Steven Phillip and Kathy Rae (Leichtenberg) Bastean; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean graduated from Pekin Community High School (P.C.H.S.) in 2010; while at P.C.H.S., he was a 4-year cadet of the JROTC and was the captain of the Air Rifle Team; he also participated in track and cross country; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean served his country with pride and distinction as a member of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force out of Twentynine Palms, California; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean loved big trucks, hunting, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean was preceded in death by his cousin, Ella Leichtenberg; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean is survived by his mother, Kathy Bastean; his father, Steven Bastean; his grandparents, Bob Leichtenberg, Judy Leichtenberg, Thomas Bastean, and Jackie and Phil Pampinella; his great-grandparents, Florence and Jim Arnold, Ray Besancenez, and Gene and Gina Vahle; and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean's patriotism and courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jordan Stephen Bastean; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of L. Cpl. Jordan Bastean as an expression of our sympathy.
