SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edmund Morrissey of Godfrey, who passed
4away on September 12, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born September 18, 1926, in Alton to Edmund
6Henry and Emma Miller Morrissey; he graduated from Marquette
7High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Merchant Marines during
8World War II, where he was decorated with the Victory Medal;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Upon his return to Alton, he enrolled at St. Louis
11University before graduating from Washington University's
12School of Engineering; during that time, he met the love of his
13life, the former Therese (Trixie) Louise Woodbury and they
14married on November 27, 1948; they settled into a life
15together, founding and building a business, Morrissey
16Construction Company; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Throughout his life he devoted countless hours to
18volunteer his time and talent on many civic boards for the
19betterment of the overall community he cherished and was always
20there for St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he worshipped and
21served for more than 60 years; he had a passion for travel and
22learning about other cultures, most notably the ancient

1cultures of Central America, where he was recognized as an
2authority in the field of pre-Columbian antiquities; and
 
3    WHEREAS, His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and
4woodworking; his greatest passion was simply spending time with
5his many family and friends; in addition to being a devoted
6husband and father he rarely missed a youth sporting event or
7activity, he took great pleasure in helping others and
8spreading good will, and touching the lives of countless
9individuals; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and a
11sister-in-law, Mary Josephine "Jody" Morrissey; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey leaves behind to cherish his
13memory, his beloved wife Trixie; his children, Ed, Jr. (Patty),
14Mike (Linda), Barbara McGrew (Michael), Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe,
15John, Teri Holland (Dean), Dan (Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy
16Brandt (Kurt); his grandchildren, Mary Morrissey, Jeanne
17Kirimca, Michael C. Morrissey Jr., Vanessa Bassett, Ryan
18Morrissey, Tom Edmoundson, Micah Spicer, Edmund Q. Morrissey,
19McKenna Morrissey, John Paul Morrissey, Jackson Morrissey,
20Jacob Morrissey, Erich Holland, Nathan Holland, Michelle
21Holland, Samantha Purcell-Blyth, Daniel Morrissey Jr., Emma
22Morrissey, Joseph R. Morrissey, Margaret Morrissey, Alexander
23Morrissey, Matthew Morrissey, Lauren Brandt, Zachary Brandt,

1Noah Brandt, Luke Brandt, and Sophia Brandt; his
2great-grandchildren, Konnor Morrissey, Kollin Morrissey,
3Karson Morrissey, Kooper Morrissey, Madison Bassett, Isabelle
4Bassett and Shane Morrissey; his brother, Thomas Morrissey,
5M.D.; his sister-in-law, Jean Woodbury Culligan Doris; and many
6nieces, nephews and cousins; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9his family and friends, the passing of Edmund Morrissey; and be
10it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Edmund Morrissey as a symbol of our
13sincere sympathy.
