SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul Maca, who passed away on July 29, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Paul Maca was born in 1931, in Chicago; he was raised in Hinsdale, where he graduated from Hinsdale Central High School with the class of 1949; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Arizona, where he was also a member and president of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity; and

WHEREAS, After serving his country with pride and distinction in the Air Force, Paul Maca returned to Western Springs in 1958, where he lived with his family until May of 2011; and

WHEREAS, Paul Maca retired as president of Sommer and Maca Industries in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Paul Maca was an enthusiastic volunteer in his community and his church; he served as chairman of the Robert Crown Health Education Center, member of the board of directors and chairman of Harris Bank Hinsdale, board member of the Wellness House, moderator at the First Congregational Church of Western Springs, member of the Western Springs Community Center Association Board, and president of the Hinsdale Golf Club; and

WHEREAS, Paul Maca enjoyed summers at the lake, winter vacations to Mexico and Tucson, Arizona, and traveling around the world with his wife; he also loved the game of golf, the Chicago Cubs and Bears, dry martinis, and spending time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Paul Maca is survived by his college sweetheart and devoted wife of 57 years, Gail; his daughters, Katherine (Casey) Mangan, Marjorie (James) Surpless, and Sarah Maca (Alex Alimanestianu); his grandchildren, Mallory, Trey, Patrick, Charlotte, Eric, and Henry; his brother, Allan Leigh Maca; his nephew, Allan; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Doug Weart, and their children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul Maca; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Maca as an expression of our sympathy.
