SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, State Senator Christine J. Johnson has
3represented the citizens of Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, DeKalb, and
4LaSalle County with distinction in the Senate for 2 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson's priorities have always been
6those of the people she represents - promoting fiscal
7responsibility, the protecting personal liberties, and
8improving educational opportunities for all Illinois students;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson became a lawmaker to make the
11State of Illinois a better place for current and future
12citizens to live, work, raise a family, and start and grow a
13business; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson most recently served as
15Republican Spokesman of the Senate Higher Education Committee,
16as member of the Senate Education Committee, as member of the
17Senate Licensed Activities Committee, and as member of the
18Senate Public Health Committee; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson worked on several legislative
20measures, including service on the P-20 Council on Education
21and the Legislative Medicaid Advisory Committee to create

1Medicaid reform; and
 
2    WHEREAS, A number of local and state organizations have
3recognized Senator Johnson for her legislative work, including
4the Illinois Public Transportation Association as Legislator
5of the Year, the Illinois Association of Regional Offices of
6Education-Area 2 for outstanding service, and the Illinois Farm
7Bureau; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson has been involved in many civic
9and charitable organizations, including the Illinois County
10Treasurers' Association, the DeKalb County Crime Stoppers
11Board, the Rotary Club, the Indian Creek Education Foundation
12Board, the Kishwaukee Health Foundation Board, the Kishwaukee
13United Way Board, the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels
14program; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson has been recognized for her
16efforts in her community, including being named a Paul Harris
17Fellow by Rotary International and receiving the Northern
18Illinois University College Republican's Conservative Leader
19award, the Illinois County Treasurer Association's Treasurer
20of the Year award, and the Zone IV County Treasurer of the Year
21award; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson served as the DeKalb County

1Treasurer from 1994 to February 2011; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson was born on March 14, 1960; she
3graduated from Shabbona High School; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson earned a bachelor of arts degree
5from Northern Illinois University in Journalism and Public
6Relations; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson is the only graduate of Northern
8Illinois University to represent the main campus in the
9Illinois Senate; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Senator Johnson and her husband, James, have been
11married since 1983, and have one child; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In her 2 years as a senator, Senator Johnson has
13represented her constituents with diligence and grace; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lawmakers and staff alike appreciate Senator
15Johnson for her zeal and passion for the people in her district
16and the State; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Senator
19Johnson on her retirement from the Illinois General Assembly

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Senator Johnson with our friendship, our gratitude
