SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James P. Hughes Sr., who passed away on
4November 21, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Hughes Sr. was born in Indiana and raised in
6the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago; and
 
7    WHEREAS, After graduating college in 1942, James Hughes Sr.
8enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the 17th
9and 82nd Airborne Divisions; he subsequently earned his law
10degree in 1948 from DePaul University and began practicing real
11estate law; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Hughes Sr. had a long and distinguished
13career as a builder and land developer; in 1961, he formed the
14Wiseman Construction Company with Jerry A. Wiseman; in 1985, he
15purchased the remaining shares of the company; under his
16direction, the firm built an estimated 35,000 homes in the
17south suburbs, Wheaton, Naperville, Plainfield, Oswego,
18Sycamore, DeKalb, Sugar Grove, and North Aurora; he also built
19apartment buildings, shopping centers, and office buildings;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, In 1964, James Hughes Sr. fulfilled his lifelong

1dream of living on a farm by moving to the 800-acre Cloonlara
2Farm near Elburn; he grew corn, wheat, and soybeans and raised
3livestock on the farm; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Hughes Sr. was an avid White Sox fan, tuning
5into day games by radio in his office; he was an avid supporter
6of Marmion Academy and Rosary High School and was a past
7chairman of the Missionary Vehicles Association; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Hughes Sr. was preceded in death by his
9loving wife, Dorothy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, James Hughes Sr. is survived by his sons, James,
11Michael, and Sean; his daughters, Maureen McKanna and Sheila
12Fitzsimmons; and his 13 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of James P. Hughes Sr.; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
18presented to the family of James Hughes Sr. as an expression of
19our sympathy.
