1    AN ACT concerning veterans.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Children of Deceased Veterans Act is amended
5by changing Section 1 as follows:
 
6    (330 ILCS 105/1)  (from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 26)
7    Sec. 1. The The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs
8shall provide, insofar as moneys are appropriated for those
9purposes, for matriculation and tuition fees, board, room rent,
10books and supplies for the use and benefit of children, not
11under 10 and not over 18 years of age, except extension of time
12may be granted for a child to complete high school but in no
13event beyond the 19th birthday who have for 12 months
14immediately preceding their application for these benefits had
15their domicile in the State of Illinois, of World War I
16veterans who were killed in action or who died between April 6,
171917, and July 2, 1921, and of World War II veterans who were
18killed in action or died after December 6, 1941, and on or
19before December 31, 1946, and of Korean conflict veterans who
20were killed in action or died between June 27, 1950 and January
2131, 1955, and of Vietnam conflict veterans who were killed in
22action or died between January 1, 1961 and May 7, 1975, as a
23result of service in the Armed Forces of the United States or

1from other causes of World War I, World War II, the Korean
2conflict or the Vietnam conflict, who died, whether before or
3after the cessation of hostilities, from service-connected
4disability, and of any veterans who died during the induction
5periods specified below or died of a service-connected
6disability incurred during such induction periods, such
7periods to be those beginning September 16, 1940, and ending
8December 6, 1941, and beginning January 1, 1947 and ending June
926, 1950 and the period beginning February 1, 1955, and ending
10on the day before the first day thereafter on which individuals
11(other than individuals liable for induction by reason of prior
12deferment) are no longer liable for induction for training and
13service into the Armed Forces under the Universal Military
14Training and Service Act, and beginning January 1, 1961 and
15ending May 7, 1975 and of any veterans who are totally and
16permanently disabled as a result of a service-connected
17disability (or who died while a disability so evaluated was in
18existence); which children are attending or may attend a state
19or private educational institution of elementary or high school
20grade or a business college, vocational training school, or
21other educational institution in this State where courses of
22instruction are provided in subjects which would tend to enable
23such children to engage in any useful trade, occupation or
24profession. As used in this Act "service-connected" means, with
25respect to disability or death, that such disability was
26incurred or aggravated, or that the death resulted from a

1disability incurred or aggravated, in the performance of active
2duty or active duty for training in the military services. Such
3children shall be admitted to state educational institutions
4free of tuition. No more than $250.00 may be paid under this
5Act for any one child for any one school year.
