SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
430 ILCS 65/7  from Ch. 38, par. 83-7

    Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that notwithstanding any other provision of law, the names and information of applicants or holders of a Firearm Owner's Identification ("FOID") Card are considered private and shall not be disclosed. Provides that no State or local law enforcement agency shall provide lists of information pertaining to FOID Card holders or applicants. Provides that a law enforcement agency may disclose whether an individual has or has not been issued, applied for, or denied a FOID Card in connection with a criminal investigation. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning firearms.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Firearm Owners Identification Card Act is
5amended by changing Section 7 as follows:
 
6    (430 ILCS 65/7)  (from Ch. 38, par. 83-7)
7    Sec. 7. (a) Except as provided in Section 8 of this Act, a
8Firearm Owner's Identification Card issued under the
9provisions of this Act shall be valid for the person to whom it
10is issued for a period of 10 years from the date of issuance.
11    (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including
12the Freedom of Information Act, it is the public policy of this
13State that the names and information of people who have applied
14for, or received a Firearms Owner's Identification Card under
15this Act are considered private and shall not be disclosed. No
16State or local law enforcement agency shall provide a list of
17names of any or all holders or applicants in the State of
18Illinois of Firearms Owner's Identification Card except that
19the Department of State Police may provide confirmation that an
20individual has or has not been issued, applied for, or denied a
21Firearms Owner's Identification Card in connection with a
22criminal investigation.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
