HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, John R. Crozier, Jr. was a 15-year member of Laborers' Local 911 in Ottawa and was a certified flagger for 10 years; on May 22, 2003, he was hit by a drunk driver while serving as a road construction flagman at a construction site on Illinois Route 23; he passed away from his injuries 4 days later; and

WHEREAS, Flaggers like John Crozier, Jr. assume the risk of serious injury or death in the course of their daily work, in order to assure the safety of construction crews at work on the roads of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting that we honor the memory of John Crozier, Jr. and remember the tragic event that took his life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the portion of Illinois Route 23 south of the City of Ottawa as the John R. Crozier, Jr. Memorial Highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect, consistent with State and federal regulations, signs displaying the name of the John R. Crozier, Jr. Memorial Highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation and to the family of John R. Crozier, Jr.
