HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Janet Hasz, Executive Director of the Supportive Housing Providers Association in Chicago, on her retirement; and

WHEREAS, For the last ten years she has served as the Executive Director of the Supportive Housing Providers Association (SHPA), over 100 nonprofit organizations located throughout the State of Illinois that provide supportive housing to homeless individuals and families, who often also have special needs, such as mental illness or HIV/AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Under her leadership the Supportive Housing Providers Association has grown by more than 800% since going statewide in June of 2000; she has 27 years of leadership experience in the field of non-profit affordable housing; as executive director of a community-based development agency, she directed the rehabilitation of 500 units of family affordable rental housing and the new construction of 28 award-winning affordable town homes; and

WHEREAS, Janet Hasz was born in Mt. Prospect; she has been a community activist in Chicago since 1982; her early career was teaching elementary school; and

WHEREAS, She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Concordia College; she also received training in non-profit administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Center for Enterprise Development; and

WHEREAS, She received a Statewide Housing Action Coalition Golden Trowel Award in 2004 in recognition of her organization and advocacy work with the Supportive Housing Providers Association to secure State funding for services in supportive housing; for the International Homes 28-unit town home project completed in Uptown, she received honorable mention in the Fannie Mae and Social Impact housing development competitions and an American Institute of Architects Award; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Janet Hasz on her retirement and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Janet Hasz as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
