HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Frank M. Clark, Chairman and Chief Executive
3Officer of Commonwealth Edison Company, is retiring after 46
4years of service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark, who started in the ComEd mailroom in
61966 and, through dedication, skill, and hard work, rose to the
7highest office within one of Illinois' most vital and
8historically significant companies; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark's time with the company was interrupted
10only once, with his service to the United States in the Vietnam
11War; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Since joining ComEd in 1966, he rose steadily
13through the ranks, holding various positions in both corporate
14support and line functions; prior to his appointment as
15chairman and chief executive officer of ComEd, Mr. Clark served
16as president of ComEd, responsible for overseeing the
17day-to-day operations of the company, and executive vice
18president and chief of staff of Exelon; and
 
19    WHEREAS, During his 46-year career at ComEd, he held key
20leadership positions at a number of business-critical
21functions across the company, including: customer service

1operations; marketing and sales; regulatory, governmental and
2community affairs; information technology; communications;
3human resources; labor relations; and distribution services;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark serves on the board of trustees of the
6Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium and Astronomy
7Museum, DePaul University, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and
8the University of Chicago Medical Center; he also is on the
9board of directors of Metropolitan Family Services, the
10Illinois Manufacturers Association, Big Shoulders Fund, United
11Way of Metropolitan Chicago, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
12Library Foundation, and the executive committee of The Chicago
13Community Trust; he sits on the governing board of Econ
14Illinois and is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the
15Economic Club of Chicago, The Commercial Club of Chicago, and
16the Executives' Club of Chicago; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark is a committee member of Chicago 2016
18and a co-founder of the Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy on
19Chicago's west side; he serves on the board of directors for
20Waste Management, Inc., Harris Financial Corp., and Aetna Inc.;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark received an honorary Doctor of Humane
23Letters degree from Governors State University and an honorary

1Doctor of Law degree from DePaul University; he has received
2numerous awards including the prestigious HistoryMakers Award
3and the National Humanitarian Award from the National
4Conference for Community and Justice; in 2008, U.S. Black
5Engineer & Information Technology Magazine named him to its
6annual list of the 100 Most Important Blacks in Technology; he
7also was ranked among the 50 Most Powerful Black Executives in
8America by Fortune magazine in 2002; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He received his bachelor's degree and law degree
10from DePaul University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, While attending DePaul University to complete his
12law degree, he and his wife, Vera, would eat dinner in their
13car after his day at ComEd was over and before his law classes
14would begin; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark was instrumental in helping reform,
16revitalize, and restructure the State's electric industry, as
17Illinois has now become a national leader in electric service
18competition and customer choice; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mr. Clark has served as a mentor to countless
20colleagues and young people, providing guidance and
21inspiration to help them realize their own potential;

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Frank M. Clark on his retirement and thank him
4for the difference he has made to the business, civic, and
5policy fabric of the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Frank M. Clark as a symbol of our respect and
8esteem.
