1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to acknowledge the City of Plano and its
4 impressive transformation into "Smallville" in August of 2011,
5 during the filming of the 2013 blockbuster movie, "Superman:
6 Man of Steel"; and

7     WHEREAS, Plano is a small city 60 miles southwest of
8 Chicago with a population of 10,900 people; and

9     WHEREAS, "Superman: Man of Steel", directed by Zach Snyder,
10 is set to be released in June of 2013; and

11     WHEREAS, Warner Bros. Pictures chose the City of Plano out
12 of more than 60 Chicagoland areas to be transformed into Clark
13 Kent's adoptive childhood home of Smallville, Kansas because of
14 Plano's all-American small town ambience and architecture, as
15 well as Plano's friendly and helpful community; and

16     WHEREAS, Plano's downtown area and a significant stretch of
17 Main Street were closed and transformed into Smallville; and

18     WHEREAS, A wide range of local Plano contractors worked
19 with Warner Bros. Pictures throughout the preparation and
20 filming of the movie, providing a boost to the community's

1 local economy; and

2     WHEREAS, Local businesses embraced and supported the
3 filming by selling a wide array of Superman-inspired items; and

4     WHEREAS, Numerous casting calls for extras to appear in the
5 movie were held during the month of June and were attended by
6 thousands of Plano residents and other adjacent communities;
7 and

8     WHEREAS, Members of the Plano community caught glimpses of
9 Hollywood stars, such as Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin
10 Costner, Diane Lane, and Russell Crowe, throughout town during
11 filming; and

12     WHEREAS, Plano hopes to create a "Superman: Man of Steel"
13 museum to attract future visitors and host an annual
14 celebration to celebrate Superman's hometown and the movie's
15 filming in Plano; therefore, be it

16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18 we celebrate and acknowledge the City of Plano and its
19 residents for its transformation into Clark Kent's adoptive
20 childhood home of Smallville during the filming of "Superman:
21 Man of Steel"; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the City of Plano.
