HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lombard Police
4Officer Joe Menolascino on being awarded the "Achievement of
5Excellence Award" by the Illinois Operation Lifesaver
6Enforcement Committee; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He joined the Lombard Police Department in 1996;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was recognized for his exemplary enforcement
10efforts and promoting railroad crossing safety throughout the
11community since 2008; he is a 15-year veteran of the Lombard
12Police Department and a truck enforcement specialist assigned
13to the Lombard Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit; he has
14worked tirelessly in so many ways to prevent unnecessary deaths
15and injuries at railroad crossings; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He has been instrumental in securing thousands of
17dollars in grant funding to support efforts at educating
18pedestrians and motorists about the dangers associated with
19railroad crossings; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Village of Lombard sees an average of 4,000
21train commuters per day, as well as 50,000 vehicle operators

1who also cross the tracks; as part of the efforts which gained
2him this recognition, Officer Menolascino has passed out more
3than 10,000 informational safety fliers to children and adults,
4including on the train platform; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Officer Menolascino was instrumental in having
6new railroad safety signs installed in the community, and he
7has organized railroad crossing enforcement campaigns aimed at
8reducing violations; additionally, because of his efforts,
9Lombard became one of the first communities to have suicide
10prevention information along the railroad tracks; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He is a graduate of Elmhurst College; he attends
12many government sponsored events like senior health fairs and
13women's health fairs to promote train safety; he is married and
14has one son, Anthony; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we thank Officer Menolascino for his hard work, congratulate
18him on this award, and wish him continued success in the
19future; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Officer Joe Menolascino as a symbol of our respect
22and esteem.
