HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1962, the Schaumburg Township District Library opened in a small house and has since expanded to a 166,000-square-foot building in the Village of Schaumburg with branches in the Villages of Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park; and

WHEREAS, The Library has provided continuous, excellent public library service for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, The Library provides books, magazines, music, movies, computers, online databases, downloadable resources, and countless opportunities for lifelong learning; and

WHEREAS, The Library provides programs, films, concerts, classes, and activities for individuals of all ages and their families; and

WHEREAS, The Library provides specialized reference and research services for health, personal finance, jobs and careers, and business development; and

WHEREAS, The Library website provides digital access to valuable information online; and

WHEREAS, The Library offers resources, activities, and programs for children designed to expand young minds, improve literacy, and provide a safe learning environment; and

WHEREAS, The Library offers educational and recreational resources, activities, programs, and clubs of special interest to teens; and

WHEREAS, The Library provides comfortable and convenient meeting and study rooms for community groups; and

WHEREAS, The Library offers materials, programs, and services to the homebound and residents of rehabilitation, assisted living, and nursing home facilities; and

WHEREAS, The Library provides adaptive equipment for those with visual, hearing, learning, and physical impairments; and

WHEREAS, The Library delivers books to daycare centers and day camps during the summer; and

WHEREAS, The Library assists new immigrants in learning English and preparing to become U.S. citizens; and

WHEREAS, The Library works with local schools, governments, community agencies, and charitable organizations to improve the quality of life in our communities; and

WHEREAS, The Library has received numerous prestigious local, regional, State, and national awards; and

WHEREAS, The Library is rated as one of the Top Ten U.S. Libraries; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Schaumburg Township District Library's many achievements and services and express congratulations on 50 years of informing, inspiring, and connecting the communities that it serves; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the staff of the Schaumburg Township District Library as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
