HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
3(CDC) report vaccinations are one of the best ways to put an
4end to the serious effects of certain diseases; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The CDC's 2010 National Immunization Survey found
6an increase in vaccine usage for numerous vaccine-preventable
7diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, rotavirus,
8pneumococcal disease, hepatitis A, and Haemophilus influenza
9type B; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The results from the National Immunization Survey
11also indicate that vaccine coverage rates against poliovirus,
12chickenpox, and the full series of hepatitis B remained stable
13at or above 90%; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization
15Practices reports that adolescents between 13 and 17 years of
16age routinely receive meningococcal conjugate, tetanus,
17diphtheria, and acellular pertussis vaccines; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Immunizing children and adolescents helps protect
19the health of our communities throughout the State of Illinois
20by slowing down or stopping disease outbreaks; and

1    WHEREAS, The Women in Government Foundation, Inc. is a
2national, non-profit, non-partisan organization of female
3State legislators that provides leadership opportunities,
4networking expert forums, and educational resources to address
5and resolve complex public policy issues; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Women in Government Foundation has made it a
7major policy initiative to emphasize the importance of lifetime
8vaccinations to create a healthier population and save lives;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we encourage the continued use of vaccines in children,
13adolescents, and adults to ensure the safety and health of
14Illinoisans; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the Women in Government Foundation in recognition
17of their continued leadership on public health issues.
