HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the patrons,
4owners, musicians, artisans, and thespians of the Palette,
5Masque and Lyre Theater in Antioch as they celebrate the 50th
6anniversary of the Theater; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Palette, Masque and Lyre Theater was
8established in the early 1960s by people interested in
9producing plays, art works, and musicals; early members that
10are still active include Dee Baum, Aileen and Paul Biel, Art
11Doty, Hank Apostal, Shirley Jensen, and Betty and Ken Smouse;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, The group originally rented an empty theater
14building on Main Street in Antioch; the Crystal Palace had been
15used as a playhouse, burlesque hall, and movie theater; early
16productions by P.M. & L. Theater were put on for local PTAs,
17churches, and other organizations with proceeds going for
18building upkeep and operating expenses; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 1983, the group was given the chance to
20purchase the building, and through donated money, time, labor,
21and skill the P.M. & L. Theater had a home of its own; and

1    WHEREAS, In 2000, an estate gift allowed the P.M. & L.
2Theater to remodel the building and add an addition; and
 
3    WHEREAS, A typical season at the Palette, Masque and Lyre
4Theater includes six shows representing three areas of theatre:
5drama, mysteries, and musicals; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate the men and women of the Palette, Masque and
9Lyre Theater as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of bringing
10the arts to Antioch; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the Palette, Masque and Lyre Theater Board of
13Directors as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
