HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize John Deere for attempting a world record at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline by constructing a full-sized sculpture of its new S-Series combine from more than 300,000 cans through John Deere's project, Can Do; and

WHEREAS, The sculpture is 60 feet wide, 80 feet long, and 16 feet tall and weighs nearly 170 tons; all 300,000 cans will be donated as much-needed supplies to Moline's River Bend Foodbank during the holiday season; and

WHEREAS, John Deere's project Can Do sculpture and food donation program are designed to raise awareness of the essential role of farmers and ranchers play in producing safe, healthy, and abundant food for a growing world population; and

WHEREAS, Because the global population is expected to increase from 7 billion to more than 9 billion by 2050, farmers will need to increase food production by 70%, while using the same amount of land, water, and other resources; and

WHEREAS, New technologies like the S-Series combine are important tools in helping farmers meet higher food demands; and

WHEREAS, The new S-Series combine is manufactured at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline; and

WHEREAS, The combine can sculpture will be a display at the John Deere Pavilion in downtown Moline through mid-December; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize John Deere for donating 300,000 cans this holiday season and raising awareness of the essential role of farmers in global food production; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Deere as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
