HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Nancy Rodkin
4Rotering on the occasion of her 50th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering grew up in Highland Park and
6attended Braeside School, Edgewood School, and Highland Park
7High School; she subsequently earned her bachelor's degree in
8economics at Stanford University, her MBA at Northwestern
9University, and her law degree at the University of Chicago;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering is an attorney and businesswoman;
12she began her career as a member of the Treasurer's staff at
13General Motors; she subsequently joined McDermott, Will, and
14Emery as an attorney working on health care matters; in 2008,
15she shifted her focus to government work and served as a
16Legislative Aide to Illinois State Representative Karen May;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering's dedication to public service
19began in 2005, when the Mayor appointed her as a member of the
20Environmental Commission; in 2006, she was appointed as a
21member of the Plan Commission; she was also a member of the
22advisory board for the Park District of Highland Park's

1lakefront activities and Heller Nature Center, and served as
2Braeside School PTO Co-President; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering was elected to serve as Mayor of
4the City of Highland Park in April of 2011; prior to that, she
5served as Highland Park City Councilman from 2009 to 2011,
6where she served as the Liaison to the City's Design Review,
7Traffic, and Historic Preservation Commissions; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering is an ex-officio board member of
9the Community Family Center and was awarded the 2006 Robert
10Barnard Pillar Award by the Highland Park Human Relations
11Commission for her work as the founder of the Environmental
12Education Program (EEP) for North Shore District 112 Schools
13and on behalf of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering is an active member of the Highland
15Park/Highwood Rotary, the Ravinia Festival Women's Board and
16Annual Fund Committee, the Children's Memorial Foundation
17Board of Directors, the Joint Action Committee for Political
18Affairs (JACPAC), Hadassah, and the Highland Park/Highwood
19League of Women Voters; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Nancy Rotering and her husband, Rob, live in
21Highland Park with their four sons, Charlie, Jack, Andy, and
22Pete; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Nancy Rodkin Rotering on the occasion of her
450th birthday and wish her continued success and happiness in
5the future; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Nancy Rotering as a symbol of our esteem and
8respect.
