| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor the Girl Scouts Councils | | 4 | | of Illinois and the Girl Scouts of the USA on their 100th year | | 5 | | anniversary celebration; and
| | 6 | | WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in Savannah, | | 7 | | Georgia on March 12, 1912 by Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low with | | 8 | | the mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and | | 9 | | character who make the world a better place; and
| | 10 | | WHEREAS, 2012 has been dedicated to celebrating 100 years | | 11 | | of Girl Scouting and has been named "The Year of the Girl"; and
| | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Year of the Girl will kick off in Houston, | | 13 | | Texas on November 8, 2011 with the National Council | | 14 | | Session/52nd Convention titled "Renewing the Promise: Girl | | 15 | | Scouts in a New Century"; and
| | 16 | | WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, Girl Scouts of | | 17 | | Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, Inc., Girl Scouts of Greater | | 18 | | Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Girl Scouts of Northern | | 19 | | Illinois, and Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois are comprised of | | 20 | | 150,000 Girl Scout members and leaders throughout the State of | | 21 | | Illinois; and

| | 1 | | WHEREAS, All Councils will participate in activities | | 2 | | acknowledging the 100th anniversary, including various | | 3 | | community service projects and outreach programs and also Girl | | 4 | | Scout Forever Green, Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Take Action | | 5 | | Project; and
| | 6 | | WHEREAS, Illinois' Girl Scouts Councils are invited to | | 7 | | participate in a Girl Scout Day at the State Capitol on May 2, | | 8 | | 2012, where girls from across the State of Illinois can | | 9 | | celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting with a parade in downtown | | 10 | | Springfield and a rally on the State Capitol steps; therefore, | | 11 | | be it
| | 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | | 13 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | | 14 | | we honor the Girl Scout Councils of Illinois and Girl Scouts of | | 15 | | the USA's 100th year anniversary, and their continued work in | | 16 | | building girls of courage, confidence, and character; and be it | | 17 | | further
| | 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 19 | | presented to each of the Girl Scout Councils in Illinois as a | | 20 | | symbol of our esteem and respect.
