HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for their many achievements in the field of nursing; and

WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital believe that they can contribute to improvements in policies and management of health systems and services; they have already provided a tremendous service in improving the education levels of nurses at their hospital so that they can better help solve the root of the nursing shortage in Illinois, which is a shortage of nurse teachers; 115 MacNeal nurses have returned to school for either their bachelor's degree or their master's degree in nursing, which is funded by the hospital and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; the hospital's graduate school prepared nurses have made a commitment to teach in the local nursing schools to help increase the number of nursing students that Illinois can produce; and

WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital have worked tirelessly to reduce the gap between the ethnicities they serve and the ethnicities of the nurses that serve them; by reaching out to the community and creating a nondiscriminatory climate, they have increased their Hispanic Latino nurse employees from 6% to 16% - a great achievement when only 3% of nurses nationwide are Hispanic or Latino; and

WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital donate countless hours towards community service, having doubled their collective volunteer hours every year; and

WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital seek to achieve Magnet status, the gold standard in healthcare, from the American Nurses' Credentialing Center; they have raised the bar by improving the outcomes of their patients above the national benchmarks by focusing on professional development, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, and clinical practice; and

WHEREAS, The nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital for their many achievements in the field of nursing and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
