HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Lemont Knights of Columbus Council #1599 on their 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Lemont Knights of Columbus Council #1599 will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary on December 10, 2011; the council has seen its members serve in both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and other armed conflicts; and

WHEREAS, The council had over 300 members during the 1940s and 1950s when Lemont had a much smaller population; the council owned a council hall for many years on Canal Street; the council has and continues to provide service to the 4 Catholic churches in Lemont, besides assisting numerous local youth, adult, and special need groups; and

WHEREAS, The Knights participate in the national "Tootsie Roll" Day each year; this fundraiser generates thousands of dollars each year, helping around the world and aiding mentally challenged people in Lemont as well; 100% of the funds are given to civic organizations that service special need people each year; and

WHEREAS, The Knights, along with the VFW and American Legion, helped create a scholarship program fund for boys to attend Scout camps, organized and contributed to making sure hearing impaired persons have an interpreter at Catholic mass services, support youth sporting groups, and supply volunteers for the Kops for Kids program; and

WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus support Right to Life programs, support relief efforts, contribute to the food pantries, support local parishes, and other needs as they arise; and

WHEREAS, The Lemont Knights of Columbus currently has over 60 members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Lemont Knights of Columbus on this anniversary occasion and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Lemont Knights of Columbus Council #1599 as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
