HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Streamwood
4Park District on the occasion of the addition of the Hoosier
5Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country School Association of
6America's national historic register; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The rich history of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse
8Museum began in 1904, when local farmers in the Hanover
9Township area got together with a carpenter from Bartlett to
10build a one-room schoolhouse for their children; thanks in part
11to the donation of an acre of land from a local farmer, the
12schoolhouse was completed in the summer of 1904; and
 
13    WHEREAS, With the school's location between Hanover and
14Schaumburg Townships, the school was deemed to be in School
15District 43 1/2; about 20 students attended school there every
16year in grades 1 through 8 between 1904 and 1954, when the
17school closed; the school was moved to its present location at
18700 West Irving Park Road in Streamwood in 1988; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The diligent efforts of Rich Janiec and Linda
20Zimmerman, who championed the effort to gather documents and
21photographs and submit the collected data to the Country School
22Association of America, were acknowledged by a letter and

1certificate received from the Country School Association of
2America in November of 2009 that announced that the schoolhouse
3had met all the criteria and was to be awarded landmark status;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the members of the
6Streamwood Bicentennial Commission, the Streamwood Historical
7Society, the Streamwood Village Board of Trustees, the
8Streamwood Park District, Rich Janiec, and Linda Zimmerman, the
9Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum has become one of only 18
10one-room schoolhouses in America to be added to the Country
11School Association of America's National Historic Register;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate the combined efforts of those involved and the
16efforts of many unknown volunteers on the occasion of the
17addition of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country
18School Association of America's National Historic Register;
19and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
21presented to Rich Janiec and Linda Zimmerman as a symbol of our
22esteem and respect.
