HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Streamwood Park District on the occasion of the addition of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country School Association of America's national historic register; and

WHEREAS, The rich history of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum began in 1904, when local farmers in the Hanover Township area got together with a carpenter from Bartlett to build a one-room schoolhouse for their children; thanks in part to the donation of an acre of land from a local farmer, the schoolhouse was completed in the summer of 1904; and

WHEREAS, With the school's location between Hanover and Schaumburg Townships, the school was deemed to be in School District 43 1/2; about 20 students attended school there every year in grades 1 through 8 between 1904 and 1954, when the school closed; the school was moved to its present location at 700 West Irving Park Road in Streamwood in 1988; and

WHEREAS, The diligent efforts of Rich Janiec and Linda Zimmerman, who championed the effort to gather documents and photographs and submit the collected data to the Country School Association of America, were acknowledged by a letter and certificate received from the Country School Association of America in November of 2009 that announced that the schoolhouse had met all the criteria and was to be awarded landmark status; and

WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the members of the Streamwood Bicentennial Commission, the Streamwood Historical Society, the Streamwood Village Board of Trustees, the Streamwood Park District, Rich Janiec, and Linda Zimmerman, the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum has become one of only 18 one-room schoolhouses in America to be added to the Country School Association of America's National Historic Register; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the combined efforts of those involved and the efforts of many unknown volunteers on the occasion of the addition of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country School Association of America's National Historic Register; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Rich Janiec and Linda Zimmerman as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
